Having become the happy owner of a villa or apartment on the sea, those who wish to stay permanently on the island should take care of obtaining a residence permit. Paperwork must be taken seriously, otherwise it is fraught with fines at the border upon departure.

But let’s go in order:

Entry into the territory of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) allows the visitor to stay in the territory of Northern Cyprus for the period indicated on the visa (from 1 to 3 months). This is very convenient for those who come to Cyprus only for a short time. Every day of visa delay threatens with a fine of 60 Turkish liras.

The visa can be extended for another month by leaving Northern Cyprus for a day. For some, this is quite a working method.

In order not to ruin your plans every month and not spend extra money, it is very convenient to apply for a residence permit. To do this, you will need to undergo a medical examination and submit a package of documents to the immigration department of the local police department. It is important to note that a residence permit only entitles you to reside in the TRNC. It does not give the right to work or establish a business and company in the TRNC. To do this, you will need a work or business permit.

The residence permit is valid for 1 year. It must be updated annually, following the same procedure.

Children under 18 do not need a residence permit. It is only for adults. Therefore, families moving to Northern Cyprus need to obtain a residence permit only for adult family members.
